Chrome Plating Cambridge
Doug Taylor Metal Finishing Co are a family-run business, established in 1981 and providing comprehensive Chrome Plating Cambridge. The business was started by Doug Taylor himself, a keen chemist who began Chrome Plating in 1958, and there are now three generations of the Taylor family involved in the business.
All of our chrome plating Cambridge are carried-out to British Standards, and we incorporate additional inspection points at each element of the chrome plating process to ensure that the end result provides the best possible finish that the metal part will allow. Everything is checked whilst wrapped to ensure the item is of the highest quality before being sent out or collected. We will handle everything from single items to larger volumes, subject to required turnaround times.
Process for Chrome Plating Cambridge
All of our chrome plating Cambridge are carried-out in house, using modern processing plant capable of providing the highest quality chrome plating Cambridge to meet the varied demands of both trade and private customers. We offer three types of finish
- Bright chrome
- Dull chrome
- Sateen chrome.
We also offer a comprehensive range of post-plating treatments, including chromate passivate in trivalent clear and coloured.
There are no extra charges for triple-plating, because the transformation process (strip – polish – copper – nickel – chrome) is to British Standards, so is included within our pricing. This process naturally takes longer to undertake but ensures a good finish at every stage of the chrome plating process.
It also allows us to undertake chrome plating for all items from large bumpers right down to singular nuts and bolts, eliminating the chances of any single item being lost. We can handle single items up to combined maximum dimensions of 7ft 10in (2.38m) long, 2ft 10in (0.86m) wide and 3ft 10in (1.16m) deep.
We are proud to retain to this day a traditional chrome plating process where every item is hand-wired. Our manual process also achieves a thicker finish, ultimately improving the end quality and depth of the chrome finish. We are also still able to offer Hexavalent chrome plating, which is particularly important when matching finishes on older components. The more-modern Trivalent process can produce a subtly different colour / look, which can lead to every plated component in a car restoration project needing to be replated simply to avoid mismatching. By reproducing the original Hexavalent process on the most badly-damaged items, more undamaged original components can be retained, maintaining the originality of the vehicle.

Is any Preparation Work needed by the Customer?
No, generally you can supply your item to us in its current condition and we will undertake all preparations (strip and polish) before undergoing the transformation process. The only exception would be if we have to manually remove heavy paint layers or lacquers from the metal you send to us, in which case a small extra charge would apply to the stripping process. All details of this will be included in the quotation we provide to you before commencing work.
