Copper Plating Taunton
Doug Taylor Metal Finishing Co are a family-run business, established in 1981 and providing comprehensive Copper Plating Taunton.
The business was started by Doug Taylor himself, a keen chemist who began Copper Plating in 1958, and there are now three generations of the Taylor family involved in the business.
All of our copper plating Taunton works are carried-out to British Standards, and we incorporate additional inspection points at each element of the copper plating process to ensure that the end result provides the best possible finish that the metal part will allow.
Everything is checked whilst wrapped to ensure the item is of the highest quality before being sent out or collected. We will handle everything from single items to larger volumes, subject to required turnaround times.
Process for Copper Plating Taunton
All of our copper plating Taunton works are carried-out in house, using modern processing plant capable of providing the highest quality copper plating to meet the varied demands of both trade and private customers.
We offer four types of finish:
- Flash Cyanide Copper – bright copper finish also traditionally used to give a good key for the pyrophosphate copper
- Pyrophosphate copper – also a bright copper finish and mainly used for die cast components. Gives it a coating that allows nickel to key to it
- Acid Copper – provides a very bright finish, and mainly used to improve plating uniformity and brightness. Becoming more and more common for bike frames and parts
- Sateen finish – Toned-down brightness of copper finish.
The transformation process (strip – polish – copper) is to British Standards, so is included within our pricing. This process naturally takes longer to undertake but ensures a good finish at every stage of the copper plating process.
It also allows us to undertake copper plating Taunton for all items from large bumpers right down to singular nuts and bolts, eliminating the chances of any single item being lost. We can handle single items up to combined maximum dimensions of 7ft 10in (2.38m) long, 2ft (0.6m) wide and 4ft (1.2m) deep. However for the Pyrophosphate finish we can only currently handle up to 6ft (1.83m) long, 1ft 6in (0.45m) wide and 4ft (1.2m) deep.
We are proud to retain to this day a traditional copper plating process where every item is hand-wired. Our manual process also achieves a thicker finish, ultimately improving the end quality and depth of the copper finish.

No, generally you can supply your item to us in its current condition and we will undertake all preparations (strip and polish) before undergoing the transformation process.
The only exception would be if we have to manually remove heavy paint layers or lacquers from the metal you send to us, in which case a small extra charge would apply to the stripping process. All details of this will be included in the quotation we provide to you before commencing work.
